Adjusted body weight (Adj BW) is an adjustment of ideal body weight for obese patients who are 25% over their estimated ideal body weight. Adjusted body weight is actual body weight plus 40% of the difference between actual body weight and ideal body weight.
Nutritional body weight
This calculator also helps find your nutritional body weight, which is used like the adjusted body weight formula, when patients are 20% over their IBW. Nutritional bodyweight is actual body weight plus 25% of the difference between actual body weight and ideal body weight.
Fat mass is not as metabolically active as lean mass (fat mass does not require as much energy as lean mass). And currently, the resting energy requirement calculations for a severely obese person cannot differentiate between the two. With this in mind, the nutritional body weight equation assumes that only 25% of the excess weight in an obese person is metabolically active tissue. This potentially could be useful when working out energy requirements for obese people without overestimated energy requirements.
Nutrional Body Weight = Ideal body weight + (0.25 x (acutal body weight - ideal body weight))
- (acutal bodyweight is subtracted by ideal body weight)
- then multiplied by 0.25
- thenfinally added to ideal body weight.
